FRLD recognizes the need to provide
technical know-how's and improve the marketing
capabilities of existing and building agri-entrepreneurs,
as well as those in the grassroots. To this end,
FRLD has carried out various entrepreneurship
and livelihood training programs, seminars, and
workshops.
1. Strategic and Operational
Planning for the Gintong Ani High Value Commercial
Crops Program
(GA-HVCCP)
FRLD designed a planning framework and implemented
several planning workshop sessions to jumpstart
the DA-GA-HVCCP. The planning framework followed
the agribusiness system and the planning workshop
utilized the participatory approach. Attended
by more than 1,500 participants both government
and private sector nationwide, these sessions
identified priority projects based on industry
needs as identified by the private sector. The
project also resulted in the organization of a
core of ATI trainors in the area of formulating
development plans for high value commercial crops.
2. Agri-Export Seminar Series
for Mango, Garlic, and Onion
Following consultations with key informants from
the mango, garlic, and onion industries to identify
their problems and concern, FRLD designed a corresponding
seminar program that addresses the needs of the
industry. The seminars, participated in by marginalized
farmers, focused on the latest developments in
production, postharvest, and handling practices,
as well as processing and value-adding techniques.
The seminars included field visits to allow participants
to interact with successful mango, garlic, and
onion producers.
3. US-FDA Seafood Hazard Analysis
and Critical Control Point (HACCP)
Participants to the seminar were informed of the
latest US-FDA guidelines on HACCP on seafood.
Videotapes and detailed manuals were provided
to give local seafood processors and exporters
the requirements for the entry of foreign seafood
products into the US markets. Speakers from the
US-FDA were on hand to disseminate information
and respond to queries from participants.
4. Training-Seminar on Operation
and Management of Trade Fairs
Participants to the seminar were the Regional
Agribusiness Chiefs of the Department of Agriculture.
It was at aimed at transferring trade fair management
technology to the participants to enable them
to conduct trade fairs at the regional level as
prepare them for international trade fair participation.
5. Livelihood Seminars and Workshops
Over the years, FRLD has, through its market research,
accumulated various information on a wide range
of agricultural commodities covering pre-production,
production, processing/postharvest, and marketing
aspects. These were then packaged into training
modules for conducting a series of in-house training
courses for interest groups and individuals in
both the government and private sector. More than
100 seminars have been carried out by FRLD. A
number of these seminars are conducted during
the annual AgriLink trade show and convention.
